I’m doing NaNoWriMo this year. Who’s with me?

Dear Readers,

It’s beginning to be that time of year again… November. Also known as “National Novel Writing Month”. Can you believe that three years ago I dreamed about doing this, but never had the courage to follow through?

Probably not. All of my posts have been “vague poetry” entries until now. (Cue ironic laughter)

Well, this is it. Now that I don’t have college midterms or final exams to stress over, I have truly run out of excuses for not writing my biggest passion project to date:

The “SUPER SECRET POLITICAL SCIENCE FICTION NOVEL FOR NEW ADULTS”!

“SSPSFNFNA” for short…

I kid, I kid. Let’s just call it “The Select Trials” for the internet’s sake. 😉 Regardless, I am beyond excited for this opportunity! I hope I make the best of it.

Here is the gist of what this novel is about:

“The year is 2149. It has been fifteen years since the federal government of the United States of America fell apart, leaving America’s biggest corporations taking place as the country’s peacekeepers, financial providers, and of course, national entertainment. Some would say the world is ending, and others say our country has never been better. Either way, welcome to the United Provinces of America! (UPA for short)

In this era, society is beginning to discover the cost of losing their once protected freedoms, and stands on the precipice of -very real- national domination via neighboring countries.

In true “ancient-USA” fashion, our people must decide between two bad decisions: national domination, or the silent ruling of powerful corporate leaders?

As part political prodigy, contestant, and semi-disabled college graduate, one question turns over and over in our protagonist’s mind. What is the best way to build a country?”

How about you guys?

Have any of you readers participated in National Novel Writing Month, or have ever written a novel? If so, I would love to hear all about it, especially any writing tips you may have!

An informal update,
McKenzie Barber
